About MeArmstrong's early career was as a theatrical designer and easel painter. His experimental work for films and ballet ensured him a respected place in avant-garde circles. This Greek classical landscape has a surreal quality to it.Much of Armstrong's work was based on Greek mythology. In classical literature, the sea was the maritime highway upon which many a hero set forth to adventure. Mythical figures include several sea gods and here, the enormous piece of sculpture in the foreground, carved in the shape of sensuous lips and a chin, may refer to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, who was born from the foam of the sea.
More About Me
A picture jam-packed with hints and references to classical Greece, almost Dali-like in its structure. Do you find the vivid colours enticing and hypnotic or are they perhaps a bit overwhelming?
