About MeDoug Niven worked from home during the first Covid-19 lockdown. Restrictions allowed for 1 hour outside the home to exercise. He chose to go on short daily walks to get fresh air. As the restrictions began to lift, he noticed discarded masks lying in the streets surrounding his home in Aberdeen. It only took him 11 days to photograph 100 masks and create this montage.

Masks are a type of personal protective equipment, along with face shields, protective eye goggles, gloves, gowns, and other equipment. Proper use of personal protective equipment can help reduce the spread of Covid-19. Maintaining hygiene, physical distancing, and other measures were recommended during the pandemic.
