About MeDuring the first Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, Paul Nicol embarked on a photographic exploration of the signs he saw in the environment around him in the village of Peterculter near Aberdeen. He walked around the village looking for signs of humans, spirit and the coping mechanisms used during the pandemic.

During the initial weeks and months of lockdown this playpark was off limits for children to play in and the space which was usually alive with the sound of children playing and laughing turned silent and empty. The council's gardening team were furloughed, and the grass and weeds grew high illustrating nature taking over due to the lack of human presence. In this image the artist has captured how, in subtle ways, Covid-19 changed the environment we live in.
