About MeJoshua Macpherson is a painter and illustrator working out of Fraserburgh. Perception, memory, and shared narratives are common themes of his work. Having worked in a local fish factory for several years, Joshua’s art possesses a sympathetic understanding of the workers of the North Sea fishing industry, many of whom have been offering their labour to this community while isolated from their homes and families. Inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s painting Mariana, which addresses the Victorian idea of female confinement, Joshua’s painting focuses on a sense of isolation and loneliness, through which he aims to expose the underlying realities of life. Loneliness is also one of the feelings millions of us experienced during the coronavirus pandemic.
