About MeThis white tin-glazed earthenware bowl by Edgar Campden is decorated with bold abstract design of red and gold lustre brushwork.Campden worked at Aldermaston Pottery with Alan Caiger-Smith from 1961 until the pottery closed in 1993.
The Aldermaston Pottery, in the Berkshire village of Aldermaston, was known for its tin-glazed and lustre wares. Tin glaze is a plain lead glaze with a small amount of tin oxide added, which gives an opaque glossy white finish. Lustre, a metallic surface on the glaze, is created when small amounts of metallic compounds such as silver of copper are painted over a glaze before the piece is fired for a second time.
