About MeThe brightly coloured design on this porcelain gourd is produced by painting latex patches over a base glaze and then spraying a different coloured glaze over the pot before picking off the latex. A third, very thin, glaze is then applied to create a high shine finish. Kevin de Choisy has chosen coloured glazes based on traditional earthenware ones used by Thomas Whieldon in the 18th century. Whieldon worked in Staffordshire and was famous for his splashed and spotted glazes which created a colourful tortoiseshell effect.
