About MeKing Edward I or II silver penny belonging to Aberdeen's St Nicholas Street hoard. Found in 1984, this hoard comprises 2538 coins, including coins from England, Scotland, Ireland and the continent, as well as 54 imitation coins.

Obverse: Forward facing crowned head with broad, curling hair framed with text inscription.
Reverse: Centrally placed long cross with three pellets in each corner and text ringing the outer edge.
Manufacture Method: Hammered
Condition: The reverse is in OK condition with clear details and legible text, except on two segments where the text has been worn smooth. The obverse is similarly worn, with king portrait and outer text mostly clear, bar wear in the same place on the reverse. The coin has been heavily clipped and the reverse's cross has left an indent on the obverse side. The coin also features a special symbol on its obverse, with the inscription cross being a cross moline. This is a symbol used by the Benedictine order of monks and Durham's mint.
