About MeKing Edward I or II genuine or imitation silver penny belonging to Aberdeen's St Nicholas Street hoard. Found in 1984, this hoard comprises 2538 coins, including coins from England, Scotland, Ireland and the continent, as well as 54 imitation coins.Coin Type: Penny, Class 10cf3, or forgery
Coin Issuer: Edward I or II, or unknown forger
Date Minted: 1307-1309
Mint Location: Claims to be minted in Durham, but lacks typical Durham cross moline, suggesting this may be a forgery.
Find Date: 1984
Obverse: Forward facing crowned head with broad, curling hair framed with text inscription.
Reverse: Centrally placed long cross with three pellets in each corner and text ringing the outer edge.
Manufacture Method: Hammered
Condition: The coin is in poor condition and has been clipped. It may be a forgery based on a legitimate Class 10cf3 penny, due to lack of a Durham cross moline. The reverse has clear central details and legible text. The obverse has a slightly worn king portrait and legible text, bar some loss due to wear and clipping.
