About MeAn oval token inscribed on both sides: Side 1: Holburn.Church.Aberdeen. Opened 11th Septr 1836; Side 2: 1 Cor.XI.23-29 / Lovest Thou Me John XXI.17

The quotation from the final chapter of John's Gospel is different from the usual biblical quotations on communion tokens. It is the question which Jesus, having risen from the dead and appeared before the Disciples, asked of Simon Peter.

Holburn Church, built in 1836 as the token informs us, was a solid-looking structure of dubious architectural merit. In 1843 the minister, Mr Mitchell, took most of the congregation with him when he joined the Free Church. As a result the following Sunday's collection at Holburn totalled one and a half pence!
