About MeHeron lived in St Ives as a child. He became friends with several artists working in St Ives in the mid 1940s, including Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. He began writing art criticism during this period and one of the first articles published was on Ben Nicholson.

The highly abstracted still life and interior paintings that heron produced throughout the 1950s reflect an interest in the work of both Henri Matisse and Georges Braque. Although the still life is clearly delineated, colour is paramount in this work and because of this it can be seen to pave the way for his later, large abstract works.
