About MeThe Glasgow-based pottery is best known for its decorative wares in a range of pastel and lustre glazes. In the 1970s it diversified, using a stoneware body for tableware. This range is influenced by the studio pottery movement and has a hand-crafted look.
Govancroft Pottery was established around 1911 by James Buchanan in the east end of Glasgow. They initially made utilitarian stonewares such as whisky jars and jam jars. Between 1946 and 1976 a range of vases, jugs, bowls and flower baskets were also produced, with opalescent and lustre glazes over dabbed colours, such as pink, yellow, green and purple.
