About MeThis small teapot with strap handle and slim tapered spout is glazed all over in a green wood ash glaze. The body is decorated with alternating vertical bands of cream slip and reddish-brown tenmoku applied in a herringbone pattern down the body.
Edward Hughes frequently incorporated wood ash, obtained from local hardwoods, in his glazes. When fired at a high temprature the glazes achieved rich mottled colours, reflecting the Cumbrian landscape where Hughes lived and worked.
