About MeStoneware globular teapot with short spout springing from the shoulders and a slightly domed circular cover with button knop and steam hole. The cover sits neatly on the recessed internal rim of the teapot and is held in place with a small integral flange. An upright short bamboo handle is attached to two ceramic loops that spring upwards from the pot's shoulders.
The inside of the teapot is glazed in an oatmeal white slip and the exterior of the teapot and cover are glazed in Winchcombe's AK glaze - a black glossy glaze with outbreaks of rust iron brown on the rim and yellow green speckles. The glaze flows over the rolled rim and the spout and finishes short of the foot which is unglazed; the inner rim is also unglazed..
Ray Finch was one of the UK's leading makers of tableware at the Winchcombe Pottery near Cheltenham, where he led a team of talented potters. He embedded his own work within the standard domestic ware made at the workshop, marking these pieces with his personal modified mark of WP (Winchcombe Pottery) followed by a small dot.
