About MeThis stoneware jug is glazed all over with a thick streaked wood ash glaze which changes colour from greeny-white, through flashes of lavender and red to a streaked blue-green, illustrating the variety of colours achieved depending on the thickness of the glaze and the position in the kiln when the pot is fired.

Hughes frequently used ash gathered from various places close to his pottery in Cumbria to achieve rich and flowing colours when the piece was fired at a high temperature in his reduction kiln.
