About MeJacob Fransz van der Merck or Marckt joined an Artists' Guild in 1628 and left in 1631. He painted genre and still life but was perhaps best known for his portraits and 'Galant companies' in the manner of Anthonie Palamedes. He was active in Delft from 1631-1636. In 1637 he settled in The Hague 1637, moving to Leiden in 1658.

More About Me
Amazing depiction of human hair in this portrait - and it certainly looks like they allowed army officers to have rather longer hair in the 17th Century!
