About MeIn the mid 1920's James Cowie discovered the work of Paul Nash. Inspired by the Surrealist features in Nash's art, Cowie began to experiment with spatial ambiguities in his own work. Although he painted few pure landscapes - uninterrupted by figures - during his artistic career, this work demonstrates that he was a talented landscape painter.

This landscape depicts the land of his birth and features the farm named 'Castle of Auchry' after the old turret building in its grounds. The farmland is contained in the lower third of the picture whilst the sky fills the remainder of the composition. Two clouds dominate the sky: one high, light and fluffy, the other lower, darker and more ominous.
