About MeAs a pupil of Robert Scott Lauder, William MacTaggart had been taught that it was painterly effect and harmonious tone that were important, rather than a high degree of finish. He used thin fluid paint that could be freely handled, his sure and vigorous touch producing a keen sense of atmosphere. McTaggart's paintings are always full of light and air. Sir James Caw, art historian and author (and the artist's son-in-law), wrote to him: "Man, Mac, you have got the gift of putting such delightful freshness into your work that it's nearly as good as going into the country".
