About MeThe later style of Arbroath Banking Company one-pound note is more elaborate than the original 1825 version and shows a more detailed view of Arbroath Abbey ruins. Much of the design consists of machine-engraved roundels in two of which are depicted the Bell Rock Lighthouse and a church with a tall spire. Date, serial number and signatures are entered by hand.

Only two types of note were produced for the Arbroath Banking Company during its 20 years of independent existence, 1825-1840.

In 1844 the Arbroath Banking Company was absorbed by the Commercial Bank of Scotland for a sum of £8,000.
