On amalgamation with the Union Bank of Scotland in 1849 new notes were designed for the Banking Company in Aberdeen. This example is a printer's proof of the new design and was not intended to be issued for circulation.
Despite the Banking Company in Aberdeen's early success its situation had altered dramatically by 1849. Now it was crippled by bad debts and on the point of collapse.
