About MeThe type of one-pound note issued in the bank's inaugural year displays a vignette of Arbroath Abbey at top centre. Also depicted, at the left-hand side, is the well known Bell Rock Lighthouse. As usual in a note of this period the date, serial number and signatures are all entered by hand. The notes were produced from copper plates by Kirkwood and Son. Only two types of note were produced for the Arbroath Banking Company during its 20 years of independent existence from 1825 to 1844.

Two branches, at Coupar Angus and Forfar, were operated by the Arbroath Banking Company which provided financial support for textile manufacture. In July 1844 the Arbroath Banking Company amalgamated with the Commercial Bank of Scotland.
