About MeCarte de Visite of Melrose Abbey from the south-west. It is a partly ruined monstery founded in 1136 and once belonged to the Cistercian order in Melrose, Roxburghshire. It was the chief house of the Cistercian order until the Reformation. There is a man sitting in the grass among the gravestones with a book in his hand and he appears to be wearing a beret. g.w.wilson no.97 aberdeen"
