About MeLucien Pissarro was the eldest son of Camille Pissarro and through his father he was introduced to many leading French artists including Monet and Cézanne. In 1890, he moved to England in order to develop his interest in book illustration and to escape the shadow of his father. He played a significant part in disseminating knowledge of French painting in Britain.

Pissarro never shook off the influence of Impressionism and he continued to return to France for extended painting trips. This picture was executed close to the house in the South of France near Toulon which Pissarro purchased in 1929.

More About Me
The artist’s father, famous Impressionist Camille Pisarro, studied with George Seurat, a leading Pointillist who made images out of dots of colour. Lucien Pisarro was in turn inspired by these techniques.
