About MeMacTaggart was the grandson of the 19th century landscape painter William McTaggart. MacTaggart acknowledged two major influences in his work - Paul Cézanne and the Norwegian artist, Edvard Munch who was the forerunner of Expressionism.
This work is a tribute to fellow artist Anne Redpath. Like MacTaggart, Redpath was committed to Expressionism in her later career. The brilliant pigment, laid down in encrusted layers of paint, is MacTaggart's hallmark.
