About MeThis wedding dress is thought to have been worn by Mrs J B Duncan who lived at Lynturk Manse, near Alford. It was sold by Pratt & Keith who had premises on Union Street, in Aberdeen. The popular store specialised in clothing and dressmaking, mourning and funerals, as well as furniture and upholstery. The grey silk two-piece dress comprises a fitted, boned cuirass bodice with a long grey silk fringe and bustle skirt with train.
The bustle began to be subdued from 1875 onwards by the cuirass bodice, which began to creep down past the waist to cover the hips. By 1880 the tight-fitting cuirass bodice enveloped the whole torso, giving the body a smooth elegant shape.
