About MeStonehaven artist Meta Meston studied at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen. Her portrait of her father earned her the Davidson Medal and was exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Glasgow Institute whilst this portrait of her mother was also awarded an award of the Royal Scottish Academy and a prize of £25. Meston won a travelling scholarship and with this she visited the British School of Art in Rome - she then went on to visit Florence, Venice and Paris. Later she became a member of the '47 Group, which included Alberto Morrocco.

Meta Meston taught for many years - at Kirkwall Grammar School, John Watson's College in Edinburgh, Gray's School of Art, a girls' college in the Sudan, Aberdeen schools and Stonehaven's Mackie Academy. She also taught adult art classes at Stonehaven community centre. She continued to paint in oils until her last illness. She also had a love of the countryside and walking and a founder member of the Stonehaven Ramblers Association, which formed in 1986.

Stonehaven artist Merton won awards for portraits of both her parents. She travelled in Europe, later joining the 47 Group, which included Alberto Morocco, and taught throughout Scotland
