About MeRectangular in shape with cut corners and inscribed on both sides. Side1: Gilcomston Free Church 1843 / 1 Cor XI.28th; Side 2: Nec Tamen Consumebatur (`And yet it was not consumed').

Like a number of other Free Church tokens the Gilcomston example depicts the Burning Bush. This alludes to the Book of Exodus, Chapter 3, in which God called to Moses from the middle of a bush which burned but was not destroyed.

In 1843 a majority of the Church of Scotland congregation in Gilcomston followed their minister, Mr Bryce, in joining the newly-established Free Church. Located at first in a modest building in Huntly St. they moved in 1868 to a much grander building in Union St designed by city architect William Smith.
