About MeThe history of Broadford Works reflects the general history of the textile industry. Founded in the first decade of the 19th century as a linen manufacturer it became a large employer in Aberdeen. But its fortunes were liable to severe fluctuations with the rise and fall of profits and demand. This was the case through the 19th and 20th centuries and into the 21st. A number of owners have been associated with the business most notably John Maberly and Richards & Co.

The lithograph is dated as after 1842 and before the erection of the square chimney stalk in Hutcheon Street in 1864 but this view would not have been available to the general public, as it was obstructed by the buildings of George Street.
