About MeBlack raku stoneware pot with bulbous round body and a slim concave neck that has a tall altered flattened top. The body of the pot has been glazed in mustard, green and red streaked lustre and slip.Andrew Hill is heavily influenced by Eastern Ceramics, which led him to specialise in thrown work as well as the techniques of Raku firing. The result is a dramatic contrast of vibrant, spontaneous colour against a carbonised black.
Raku is a type of Japanese pottery that uses a temperamental kiln that is often built outdoors, rather than a production kiln in which the heat is consistent and controlled. 'Raku' can be translated to English as 'enjoyment'.
