About MePart of a Papal Bulla or seal found by metal detection at Rattray. Papal bulls or documents were sealed to prove that they were issued by the Papal office. They were usually made of wax formed in a lead mould. Sometimes they were made of lead, which is soft enough to be moulded into shape. It is unlikely to that any bullae will be found in in Britain dated after the Reformation in 1534 when Henry VIII severed all links with Rome.TT75/99
