About MeEdgar has used two types of traditional enamelling to decorate this narrative piece. Cloisonné enamelling applies thin wires to form cells and Champlevé enamelling involves carving small pits from the surface of the metal. In each technique enamel is then fired in the cells or cavities. The pot depicts playful tortoiseshell cats on a background of orange and gold flecks with wisteria blooms in a frieze around the outside.Maureen Edgar established her workshop in Reston near Eyemouth in 1980 and is now universally acknowledged as one of Scotland's leading enamellers. Much of her work has a commemorative value and she has taken on several major commissions during her career, including a cruet set for the Millennium Collection at Bute House and a monumental vase for the Royal Museum of Scotland. Maureen has exhibited both nationally and internationally in London, Edinburgh and Europe. She is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and was given the Freedom of the City of London in November 1989. Due to ill health Maureen recently decided to give up her studio. This marmalade pot is amongst the final pieces she made.
