About MeSamuel Plimsoll, built of iron at Hood's yard in 1873, sailed in the Australian trade. Specially fitted for passenger carrying, it took out 180 emigrants on its maiden voyage. In 1899, the vessel caught fire on the Thames and had to be scuttled. After they had it raised and repaired, George Thompson Junior & Co. sold the vessel.
