Local Government Board for Scotland

1894-1929
About MeThe Local Government Board for Scotland was established in 1894 under Local Government (Scotland) Act, taking over from previous parochial boards under the 1845 Poor Law Amendment Act. The Board supervised and controlled the care of the poor under a central board in Edinburgh. These were abolished in 1929, when local authorities took over.

A nurse holding certificates from the Local Government Board for Scotland was eligible to be considered under an "existing nurse's application" for admission to the Register of the General Nursing Council (Scotland) under the terms of the Nurses Registration (Scotland) Act 1919.
