Scotland the What?

Aberdeen, Scotland, 1969 - 1995
About MeWhen comedy revue group, Scotland the What? launched in 1969 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, they quickly became a must-see act. Displaying typical humour, the trio comprising William ‘Buff’ Hardie, Stephen Robertson and George Donaldson described themselves as “three semi-literate Scots taking an irreverent look at their country’s institutions”.

For three decades they entertained sell-out audiences with their unique sketches and songs performed in their native Doric and set in the fictional village of Auchterturra. In 2008, the group was honoured with the Freedom of the City of Aberdeen for services to “. . . the Doric language and North-East of Scotland culture . . . and, above all, for makin’ a’body laugh”.
