About MeRenato Niemis trained at Chelsea College of Art and Design. These two white boxes are maquettes for a full size installation shown at the Serpentine Gallery in London in 1993 in an exhibition of the annual Barclay's Young Artist award. In this work two boxes - one unlit, one lit - serve to suggest room spaces. Niemis explores views of reality and the relationship between art and technology, building 'rooms' which are designed to 'recall the anonymity of public spaces'.

Niemis is perhaps best known for his vast glass sculpture entitled 'Counting the Cost' commissioned for the hanger-like American Air Museum at Duxford, near Cambridge, which was designed by Sir Norman Foster and opened in 1997.
