About MeThe Jenny Lind was invented in America and first came to the north east around 1885. Local granite yards were quick to realise its potential for polishing much larger pieces of stone. This was due to its design - the grinding ring is suspended from two hinged gates which can be swung around to cover a large area. The granite here is fitted with splash boards on all sides to hold the abrasive solution. The drive belts and the two gates of the Jenny Lind are clearly visible.
