In the foreground is a street paved with setts and two tram tracks. The exterior of the yard has a wooden fence painted with [EXCE]LSIOR GRANITE WORKS. To the left of the frame is the entrance and to the right is a low square brick building with a flat roof, adjacent to a long industrial across the image to the left with a large sign running the length painted ROBERT GIBB, EXCELSIOR GRANITE WORKS. Along the wall of this shed, just visible over the fence, are examples of granite memorials. Visible inside the yard is a large wooden crane and a tall chimney.
