About MeLetter from Louise Inglis to James McBey, dated 23 February 1914 which reads;

"Dear Mc,
The more I think about your etching that House, under the Conditions you mention, namely, a married woman coming to town occasionally without her Husband and sleeping in the House.
I feel convinced that you are running a severe risk. If nothing else people you know will talk.
As you are cautious with English men would it not become you to be the same with Englishwomen.
I feel as a mother and knowing you so well - that you will understand my writing to you today. I myself would not advise a son of mine to do likewise. But to take the House clear and himself choose the people who should live with him. Your sincere friend, Louise Inglis."

This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this letter.
