Lola goes on to say, "Since you left me to go so far away, I feel very hurt, a little bewildered, and so terribly lonesome", then tells McBey that she loves him, so his leaving had been "hard to bear."
Lola tells McBey that she is alone now, but talks about the "many admirers" around her telling McBey, "you always said I was a pretty girl." She then tells Mcbey that she wants to be faithful, despite the advances of McBey's "friends and first cousins", who she says Mcbey could "fight away."
The last part of the letter talks about changing her hair style, so that she now looked "fascinaiting", tells McBey how she longs for him, and that they would be very happy together. If McBey does come back to her she promises, "hours of madness together, you and me. Alone."
This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this letter.
