About MeCopy of the letter by H.W.J. Paton to Graham Smith, titled ''re James McBey and P. & D. Colnaghi & Co. Ltd.'', dated 19th November, 1941. This copy is made for McBey. (Component 1)

''Dear Graham Smith,
Many thanks for your private letter of 17th instant and I can appreciate the difficulty you are experiencing meantime with such an interruption of more routine work.

I shall speak to you by 'phone on Friday, as I am to be in London today and tomorrow at a series of meetings, and shall discuss with you then the question of the £21 and also the Sessler matter, as, of course, the dollar proceeds of any such sales would, I suppose, have to be placed at the disposal of the Treasury in view of recent Court actions reported in the Press.
Yours, sincerely, H.W.J. Paton''

Typed on one side of blue paper.

Another letter by Graham Smith to Paton, dated 17th November, 1941, is enclosed and stapled. (Component 2)

''Dear Paton

I enclose a rather more formal letter to you reporting what I have done in this matter. I have had to dash it off in somewhat diffucult circumstances owing to am inpending Court case which is knocking my programme of work all to pieces for a few days, but in case it covers the ground and you would like to send a copy to McBey, I enclose two additional copies.

There is one more point: I am informed that the company have recently sold three of McBey's drawings and that they owe him £21. thereon, which they are prepare to pay....''

This item is mentioned in component 1 ''P.S. The enclosed came to hand this morning and I send it along for your instructions as I am not sure what has to be done about it.''

The letter is partly underlined by Paton, which reads as follows.

''I think that the cheque should be sent to you... I would like to have a work with you before it is prepared...''

Printed, typed and signed on one side of paper.
