About MeLucy's Flittin' was a traditional Scottish ballad which related the tale of Lucy leaving her home and her love, Jamie. It was popularised by Robert Ford, who included it in his 'Vagabond Songs and Ballads of Scotland' published in 1899. This painting certainly predates that publication - as its first owner, Alexander Macdonald, died in 1884.
More About Me

According to the Scots ballad, orphaned Lucy was employed as a summer farm worker. She and Jamie love each other, but never quite say so and she moves away.
