About MeThe porcelain clay of this bud pot has been bashed or squashed close to the rim before firing to create the irregular shape and texture.

It is glazed in a pale blue-green celadon becoming almost white at the rim and the interior is glazed in dark brown tenmoku. The celadon has pooled in the recesses, emphasising the squashed shape.

Chris Keenan frequently works with celadon and tenmoku glazes in combination to create contrasting colours, surface patterns or to enhance the shape of the piece.

Celadon is a type of glaze which originated in China. Iron oxide is added to create shades of pale green and blue and with the addition of a greater amount of iron oxide, in colours as dark as olive green and black. Tenmoku is another type of glaze originating in East Asia and is usually a treacle-brown or lustrous black colour.
