About MeThis lilac feather hat was worn by Margaret Hird (nee Dempster) on her wedding day. She married local businessman J. D. Hird at MacDuff Parish Church, in June 1903. Miss Dempster was a dressmaker and clearly kept up-to-date with the latest styles, as her outfit follows exactly the fashions for 1903.Trimmings were used in abundance on all manner of clothing during this period and hats were no exception. Ostrich feathers were particularly popular, as seen with this hat, because of their opulent size.
