About MeFlowers were a constant source of inspiration for Winifred Nicholson and paintings of flowers - in oil and watercolour - form a large part of her output.

This delightful and apparently spontaneous study of two potted plants - a primula to the left and hyacinth to the right - typifies Nicholson's approach to flower painting. It seems that no attempt has been made to compose the scene - the two pots sit haphazardly on a table covered in a jaunty green checked cloth. The background is indeterminate and only roughly sketched in. In other similar works Nicholson has placed her subjects in front of a landscape seen through a window.

More About Me
I like the way the flowerpots are wonky and two dimensional because it gives this painting a lot of character. Emily Ives-Keeler.
