About MePhillip was a hugely successful portrait painter and his commissions included painting the marriage of the Princess Royal for the royal family.

Such was the demand for portraits by Phillip that after his death, he left unfinished a staggering twenty thousand pounds worth of portrait commissions.

More About Me

Aberdeen-born Phillip was popular particularly for his portraits. When he died in 1867, his unfinished work was deemed a valuable insight into his life and artistic process.
