About MeA Victorian artist, John Sherrin specialised in watercolours of still lifes in which petal, leaf and bud of the flower are accurately detailed - like a botanical drawing. The artist achieved this with masterful technique, learned from his teacher William Henry Hunt.

For the bird's nest, he has used watercolour and a tiny brush to build up a complicated mass of minute changes in colour and tone. This is further highlighted by bodycolour, adding texture and a three dimensional quality to the nest. It is so realistic that the viewer might almost feel that he or she, could reach into the picture and pick it up.

More About Me
Doesn’t it seem as if you can reach out and touch up this bird’s nest? Sherrin has used watercolour and a small brush to build up a complicated mass of changing colour and tone.
