About MeThis sampler was sewn by Jessie Jane Johnston aged 13 years.

What makes this sampler distinctively Scottish are the rows of initials of the family members and parents of the embroiderer. In Scotland, unlike in England, a woman kept her maiden name after she married and this accounts for the range of capital letters in the stitched rows.

The blue tiles on the roof of the house are also typical of Scottish samplers.
