About MeThis sherd of pottery was found during the excavations at Aberdeen Carmelite friary in 1980-81. It is the base of a jug with thumbed decoration. Fingerprints can be seen where the potter has pinched the clay to form the base.

The pattern is particularly clear in the pinch mark on the right. The lines of the finger or thumb print can be seen very clearly. Finger and thumb impressions are often small, suggesting that they were made by children.
