About MeThis jug handle was found during the excavation at Aberdeen Carmelite friary in 1994. It was not made in Aberdeen, and has been decorated along each edge with a finger-pinched pattern. It is possible to see indentations made by the potters fingernails.
The handle of a jug is one of the thickest parts of the vessel. When the pot is made, the handle is often decorated to ensure that the handle dries out as fully as the rest of the pot before it is fired. This handle has a groove down the centre.
