About MeThis sherd of German stoneware was found during the excavations at the Carmelite friary in Aberdeen in 1994. It is the base of a jug. Viewed from the inside, it shows the finger marks made during the throwing of this pot on a potter's wheel.
The jug is made from a smooth grey 'stoneware' - clay which has been fired to over 1200 degrees centigrade, fusing the particles together to give this smooth, watertight fabric. Siegburg is situated on the river Sieg, a tributary of the Rhine.
