About MeThis is an Imtiyaz Medal made of gold, representing the homonym order established in 1882. The gold medal was the highest Ottoman military decoration for gallantry. It has a ring that connects the medal onto an ornate suspender, which further catches the cotton ribbon. The ribbon measures 5.5 cm, and is equally divided in green and red, colours standing for the Islamic caliph and the Ottoman dynasty, respectively. The medal also has a top mounting bar with two intact pins. The front bears the Ottoman military Coat of Arms, with the inscription "Relying on Divine Guidance and Assistance, Abdülhamid Khan, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire”. The tughra of Sultan Abdülhamid II is at the top. On the reverse is an inscription in Ottoman Turkish that roughly translates as [Medal for Those That Have Shown Exceptional Loyalty and Bravery for the Ottoman Empire]. Below is a curved rectangular area where the names of the recipients would have been engraved; however, this one is empty. At the bottom is a date written in Ottoman Turkish translating as 1300 AH (1882 AD), and suggesting the year in which the medal was made.Alexander Cassie
